High Data Rates over Copper:Inhibitors
Line speeds depend on signal-to-noise ratios
Problems (some, anyway…):
- Reduced signal power (attenuation) is affected byline length and wire gauge
- Noise induced on the line (impulse power, crosstalk)
- Line splices
- Filters (loading coils) on dialup lines over 18,000 feet allow channel multiplexing but constrain bandwidth
Bottom line: copper wires can support high bandwidth but there are distance constraints
