NetHelper FAQ Please review the following trouble shooting hints if you encounter a problem while using NetHelper. 1) At least one modem or network adapter card with a binding to TCP/IP must be installed to use NetHelper. Error messages such as "PING: transmit failed, error code 10043" will occur when attempting to use NetHelper on a PC that is not configured for TCP/IP. 2) A Client for Microsoft Networks must be installed on the PC in order to use NetBIOS features. Error messages such as “NetBIOS services are unavailable” are returned from the NetBIOS panel and the NetBIOS options on the Connections and Statistics panels when this client has not been installed. The error message “The computer name specified in the network path cannot be located” may be returned by NetBIOS Resources when both File and Printer Sharing are disabled on the PC. 3) During installation, NetHelper may install or upgrade two DLL files (Mfc42.dll and Msvcrt.dll) located in your Windows/System or WinNT/System32 folder. If either DLL is currently in-use, you must reboot before running NetHelper. Error messages such as "NetHelper.exe linked to missing export MFC42.DLL:6438" will occur when attempting to use NetHelper on a PC that is still running an older DLL version. 4) In rare cases, old software may be incompatible with newer versions of MFC42.DLL and MSVCRT.DLL. To ensure that you'll always be able to restore your previous configuration, we recommend that you back up your old DLL files before installing NetHelper. 5) Some Anti-Virus programs may issue warnings during installation of NetHelper when systems files (such as DLL files and the Windows registry) are modified. At least one Anti-Virus program (InocuLAN) prevents display of NetHelper error messages when NetBIOS commands are requested without the Client for Microsoft Networks installed. 6) When using NT, NetHelper's NetBIOS Name Table output for the local PC may be improperly formatted, displaying the status of each table entry "Registered Registered Registered…" before listing the table itself. 7) On some systems, text output from NetHelper commands does not “line wrap” as intended. For example, instead of ping results being listed one result per line, two ping results may be listed on each line of output. This line wrap behavior does not interfere with NetHelper’s functionality, but can make the output display less readable. |
